Scottsdale (Maricopa County) adopts its own building code editions — Arizona has no statewide building code — and runs its own permit intake, forms, fees, and inspections. Here's what we've verified and where to confirm the specifics.
Scottsdale's Planning & Development moved permitting to the SPUR portal in January 2026 and enforces the 2021 International Codes and 2020 NEC, in effect since January 1, 2023. Like-for-like AC and air handler replacements, water heaters, and new or altered electrical circuits are listed as Minimum Permits, same-material re-roofs need no permit, and residential solar arrays that meet the City's guidelines get a small-scope review. Electrical service upgrades above 200 amps are plan reviewed.
